Repeat your team's and individual players' goals over and over again—be objective and honest.

If your team is chasing a wining season or a national championship, tell them the reasons behind their effort and sacrifices. Tell them everyday WHY they do things. Remind them during and after exercises.

An inspiring example that we've seen was a coach that visualized his goal to the team by bringing a championship trophy decoy to the field everyday. At the end of the week, a game was organized and the winning team received the trophy and celebrated like they won the championship. The staff even added the noise of the crowd in the speakers of the stadium.

Create goals and make them real. Train like you are in the competition.

Mastering new skills takes time and effort. Learning a new way of doing things, often starts by struggling with the new process. After multiple tries, the new process starts to deliver results. However, it is second nature for an athlete to forget the process and rely on instincts. To make sure athletes keep following the process, we recommend rewarding the use of the steps.

✔️ Exercise to Implement: Have an athlete explain to the team, the process that he/she is trying to master. By going through the process with teammates, the coach can make sure that the player understands the steps and value of the process.

a) Visual individuals love to use signs and graphs. Coaches who use this approach will show tactical boards in the locker room and spend a lot of time watching and commenting on videos. These coaches tend to be very technical and have a scientific approach, paying attention to the details.

b) Auditory individuals inspire through great speeches. They are motivators that fire up athletes using specific references (rivalry against opponents, history of the team, etc.)

c) Coaches using a kinesthetic approach like to repeat the same exercises over and over again until it becomes automatic. Coaches want to develop their athletes' skills so that they can do them in their sleep, like a reflex.

Practice is for repetition and creating habits. It's all about trial and error. It’s okay to make mistakes during practice; elite coaches will support their athletes, helping them understand the causes.

🐝 Here's our analysis: There is no good or bad coaching style. The best coaching style is the one that works for the athletes on your team. Most coaches use a mixture of these styles but have a tendency to lean towards one style.
-Pragmatic coaches are great at creating short-term results, but putting results before player development can lead to a lack of rotation and frustration among less skilled athletes who don't play as much.
-Expert coaches are comfortable with athletes who want to optimize their potential, but communication can be complicated between a scientific coach and less passionate players.
- Motivators make athletes happy because they find optimal ways to talk to people. However, making players happy doesn't mean winning games or developing athletes to their full potential. Motivation gives an edge when all the other aspects are mastered.
-Team builder coaches create the environment that will develop cohesion among the athletes. Now the limit to a team builder is associated with the level of talent available.

Captains need to have the capacity to focus on their tasks as well as the tasks of the teammates. This requires a certain personality type. For this reason, it is not encouraged to use your best player as the captain. Let that individual focus on performing. There is enough responsibility there! Even though a captain might not be the best athlete on the team, it will be obvious that he or she needs to be on the field.

🐝 Captains in successful teams have a tendency to be the servants. These individuals have higher tactical intelligence and put the team first. They will do the dirty jobs to facilitate the task of a game changer. Servants communicate to the rest of the team by giving them clear instructions on how to do things and act as a strategist or second coach on the field. This role is even more important when the team is facing adversity– the team captain needs to boost the team's motivation level.

TCU defeated West Virginia to take home the program's first-ever Big 12 Women's Soccer Conference Championship.

Find a way to reduce the stress and adversity that a player is feeling. Remind your players or teammates to focus on the technical aspects and follow the routine. Reinforce the fact that you know they are good at what they do by telling them to focus on "how" they do it and concentrate on the basics.
